Lyme Disease is an illness transmitted primarily through blacklegged ticks which may carry the disease-causing bacteria Borrelia mayonii and Borrelia burgdorferi. You may be surprised to learn that you can only contract the disease in certain areas of the US. But what are the condition’s complications? The signs and symptoms vary depending on how long you have been infected with Lyme. The Mayo Clinic breaks these down well.

The Mayo Clinic recommends that you see a doctor if you have been bitten by a tick and present symptoms; it also recommends that you consult a physician even if these symptoms disappear, because the disappearance of symptoms doesn’t mean that the disease has self-resolved.
