What is the importance of Exercise?

Regular exercise can help us with a wide variety of issues ranging from mental, emotional, and definitely physical. In today’s society it seems harder to incorporate physical activity into our daily routines, but if we start slowly and work our way up to the necessary amount, it is not as difficult as it sounds. Once you start, the payoff will be evident and the good news is it’s never too late to start a new exercise routine that works for you.

Exercise and physical activity can help promote the following:

  • Improved your sleep
  • Build strong bones
  • Lower your blood sugar level
  • Improve blood circulation, which raises your oxygen levels and can help lower your risk for heart disease
  • Release chemicals that improve your mental health to deal with stress and depression
  • Control your weight and prevent obesity when paired with a proper diet

Routine exercise can also reduce your risk of certain cancers including colon, breast, uterine, and lung cancers. Exercise has been proposed to explain associations to certain cancers with its many biological effects on the body. Some of those effects are reducing inflammation, improving immune system function, and preventing high blood levels of insulin.

Adding exercise into your regular routine is much simpler than it seems and small changes can help such as taking the stairs, walking instead of driving for short distances, and forming a close knit community of those to exercise with. A workout partner may make exercise more enjoyable, and allow for social activities to involve exercise such as dance classes, hiking, or playing sports. Keeping track of your progress can help set goals and stay motivated to keep pushing you throughout your exercise journey. Apps like Nike Training Club offer effective at-home workouts to help attain your fitness goals.
