In this short documentary, journalist Cleo Abram explores the topic of cancer, from its history to the latest US statistics and the current approach to addressing the Cancer challenge.
Cleo interviews Greg Simon, former president of the Biden Cancer Initiative, Dr. Dan Sodickson of NYU Stern, the inventor of parallel imaging in MRI and Ezra Chief Scientist, and Ezra Founder & CEO Emi Gal.
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and early detection significantly improves survival rates. Unfortunately, 50% of cancers are detected late, with only 20% of these patients surviving beyond five years. Ezra is on a mission to change this by making early cancer detection accessible to everyone.
Cancer affects 40% of the global population at some point in their lives. Early-stage cancer detection boasts an 80% survival rate over five years, compared to just 20% for late-stage detection. However, screening tests are available for only 50% of cancer types, including breast, lung, prostate, cervical, and colon cancers. Ezra has developed the most comprehensive Full Body MRI in the world, designed to address the gaps in cancer screening.
The Ezra Full Body MRI scans multiple organs, including the brain, spine, thyroid, liver, pancreas, and more. The scan time has been reduced by 83%, from three hours to just thirty minutes, and appointments can be booked online in five minutes without needing a primary care physician referral. Additionally, the cost of the scan has been decreased by 87%, from $10,000 to $1,300. The MRI protocol is radiologist-approved and clinically validated.
Ezra’s Scientific Advisory Board includes esteemed professionals such as Siddhartha Mukherjee, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia and Pulitzer-prize winning author; Azra Raza, MD, Director of the MDS Centre at Columbia Medicine; Lawrence Tanenbaum, MD, CTO and VP of Advanced Imaging at RadNet; and Oguz Akin, MD, Director of Body MRI at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
We have scanned over 7,000 people, detecting potential cancer in 6% of cases and providing clinically significant insights to 77% of participants. The service boasts an impressive 80 NPS score, reflecting high customer satisfaction.
Beyond cancer, Ezra’s MRI can detect other health issues like fatty liver, endometriosis, aneurysms, and herniated disks, providing valuable information for preventive health measures. We employ multi-parametric MRI (mpMRI) to increase specificity and use an internal scoring system (E-SCORE) to prioritize follow-ups. Our AI-based reports convert radiology findings into comprehensive and easy to understand reports, ensuring accuracy and minimizing unnecessary invasive procedures.
We are particularly proud that Cleo chose to trial our service. In the film, she recounts her experience getting an Ezra scan and the science and technology behind Ezra. Most importantly, she pulls apart the WHY of early detection.
It’s not an easy subject to make simple and she covers all the tough questions in detail.
For those who may not be familiar with Cleo Abram, she is an Emmy-nominated video producer and journalist. She wrote the “Coding and Diamonds” episodes of Vox’s Netflix show, Explained, was the host of Vox’s first ever daily show, Answered, as well as a host and producer of Vox’s YouTube Originals show, Glad You Asked.
She now produces her own series, Huge If True. Each episode takes one big tech innovation or idea, explains how it works, and helps people imagine how it could improve the world we live in.
In the video, Cleo takes her followers through the process of getting an Ezra full-body scan at one of Ezra’s radiology partners.
The segment takes the viewer through Cleo’s experience as she arrives, checks into the facility, and prepares for the screening in Ezra’s complimentary PJs. She then shares her thoughts on the screening experience, including the follow-up consultation with Ezra’s medical team.
Cleo’s interviews with Dr. Sodickson, Greg Simon, and Emi Gal provide a greater context behind the importance of screenings like Ezra’s Full-Body scan, designed to screen and detect potential cancer early.
We hope Cleo’s simple and clever video will help raise awareness about the importance of early cancer detection and the benefits of the Ezra scan, and we look forward to seeing its impact on the whole cancer screening landscape.
